How should I prepare for my Sunless Spray Tanning Session?

Exfoliate and shave the day before or the day of the spray tan session (the day before is ideal). The day of your spray tan session, refrain from using moisturizers, perfumes, lotions, oils, or deodorants that may create a barrier between the skin and the sunless tanning solution. You may resume using these after your first shower or bath.

How long should I wait after a session before showering?

To give the DHA enough time to fully set, it is recommended you wait a minimum of six hours after your spray tan. If you wait 24 hours you will see the optimal results. Showering sooner may diminish the intensity of the tan. If you tan using an instant cosmetic bronzer like a bronzing lotion, the instant cosmetic color will wash off in the shower, but the color produced by the DHA will remain. Your first shower should just be a warm rinse and should be at least 6 hours after your treatment.

Will swimming affect my tan?

Swimming in chlorinated water or saltwater can fade the sunless spray tan, cause possible streaking, and diminish the length of your tan. However, normal activities such as bathing, showering, or physical activities will not affect the quality of the spray tan.

Will my skin look orange?

No. The advanced technology currently used in sunless tanning solutions is designed to ensure a natural, bronze tan.

Does sunless spray tanning solution have an odor after contact with my skin?

Norvell sunless spray tanning solution uses a breakthrough odor control technology designed to virtually eliminate the odor that may be present when the solution interacts with the skin.

Is sunless spray tanning solution recommended for people with skin sensitivities or allergies?

This product is safe, however, for those with skin sensitivities or allergies, it is recommended to consult a health care professional before using the spray tan booth.

Will the cosmetic bronzer stain clothing?

The cosmetic bronzer may transfer onto clothing or sheets, but no, the sunless spray tanning solution is water-soluble and will be removed after the next wash in cold water.

How long does a sunless spray tan last?

A sunless spray tan can last between five and seven days depending on how well you maintain your skin.

What is DHA (dihydroxyacetone)?

The active ingredient most often used in all sunless tanners including tinted moisturizers, self-tanners, and spray tan solution is called Dihydroxyacetone, or DHA. DHA is a carbohydrate (monosaccharide sugar) compound approved by the FDA for use in externally applied sunless tanning solutions.

Is the DHA in sunless spray tan solution safe?

The FDA has approved DHA for external application to the skin. For misting applications, the FDA recommends protective measures to prevent eye contact, inhalation, or ingestion. To ensure complete protection, the FDA suggests wearing protective eyewear, nose filters, earplugs, lip balm, and undergarments.

What do I wear during the application?

Whatever you are comfortable with! Women can go completely nude or wear any amount of clothing they choose. We offer disposable thongs and disposable strapless bras if you prefer to wear those. When selecting what to wear, it’s important to think about what tan lines would be present after your tan. If you’re wearing a backless, strapless dress to an event, you wouldn’t want a bra tan line showing! Men must wear an undergarment of their choosing.

What  clothing is best for wearing immediately after my appointment?

After your spray tan you should wear loose fitting clothing so that the solution is not rubbed off before allowed to set.

Is it safe to Spray tan when pregnant?

Yes, this application is considered safe but if you have any concerns we encourage you to check with your doctor

What about breastfeeding?

Yes!  We just need to cover the breast area. You can wear your own bra or we have disposable bras you can use.

How can I extend my tan?

Moisturizing is key! Use oil free and low alcohol cleansers. Do not exfoliate and pat rather than rub when drying your skin.

What do I do when my spray tan fades?

At this point you should exfoliate your skin to remove the remainder of the spray tan.

How often can I tan?

We suggest every 7-10 days.
